Health and Physical Education Curriculum


The current dialogue regarding the upcoming consultations on the human development and sexual health component of the revised 2015 Health and Physical Education (H&PE) curriculum is very important. 

School boards and trustees are entrusted with the safety and well-being of their students. OPSBA and its members strongly supported the release of the revised curriculum in 2015 which reflects the health, safety and well-being realities faced by today’s students and the principles of equity, social justice and inclusion and diversity. 

In complete support of its members, who needed clarity as they prepared for the 2018-19 school year, OPSBA submitted two letters to the Minister of Education expressing its continued support for the current 2015 H&PE curriculum and advocating for a modernized, balanced approach to any curriculum discussions or revisions:

School boards have a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all students in learning environments where they feel welcome, included, valued and respected.

Current H&PE Curriculum


Beginning in September 2018, and until a revised curriculum is issued, all health and physical education programs for Grades 1 to 8 will be developed from the expectations outlined in the Interim edition released by the Minister of Education, which was developed in 1998 and last taught in 2014. 


All health and physical education programs for Grades 9 to 12 will continue to be developed from expectations outlined in the 2015 revised curriculum. Nothing has changed from the 2017-18 school year.
