Ontario government outlaws school staff strike but unions vow job action will go ahead

The Doug Ford government passed legislation Thursday that invoked the Canadian Charter’s notwithstanding clause to outlaw a strike by 55,000 CUPE education workers after last-ditch talks failed.
Laura Walton, president of CUPE’s Ontario School Board Council of Unions (OSBCU), said the strike would go ahead Friday and parents should have contingency plans for next week.
