As outgoing OPSBA President Cathy Abraham writes, “This past year has been our busiest yet – a testament to the tireless dedication of each and every trustee across our member boards. From bustling Toronto to Moose Factory, Morrisburg, Windsor, and Atikokan, it is the commitment of our trustees that has propelled us forward. Your hard work, passion, and unwavering belief in the power of public education have been the driving force behind every milestone we’ve achieved.”

In a season of change, our association has remained steadfast in our commitment to effective advocacy, stability amidst change, and driving constant progress in the pursuit of student success and well-being. We hope you enjoy reading about how we’ve met those goals in the past year.

Toronto, December 11, 2022 – The Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) is pleased to announce that the Council of Trustees’ Associations/School Board Associations (CTA) and the provincial government have successfully negotiated a tentative settlement on central terms of a collective agreement with the Ontario Council of Educational Workers (OCEW).

“Education workers play an important role in our schools, and this tentative agreement is a recognition that we value the contribution they make to the educational experience of our students every day,” said OPSBA President Cathy Abraham.

The details of the agreement remain confidential until ratified by all parties. OCEW is composed of:

  • COPE Ontario
  • Essex and Kent Counties Skilled Trades Council
  • Labourers’ International Union of North America
  • Maintenance and Construction Skilled Trades Council
  • Ontario Public Service Employees Union
  • Unifor

OPSBA will continue to negotiate fair and fully funded agreements with the other unions representing teachers and education workers, with the best interests of students in mind.

The CTA is a partnership among the following four Associations: Association des conseils scolaires des écoles publiques de l’Ontario; Association franco-ontarienne des conseils scolaires catholiques; Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association; and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association.
